Ballot Question 1: Amendment One

Should the Constitution of Virginia be amended to establish a redistricting commission, consisting of eight members of the General Assembly and eight citizens of the Commonwealth, that is responsible for drawing the congressional and state legislative districts that will be subsequently voted on, but not changed by, the General Assembly and enacted without the Governor's involvement and to give the responsibility of drawing districts to the Supreme Court of Virginia if the redistricting commission fails to draw districts or the General Assembly fails to enact districts by certain deadlines?

MoBo Recommends: Toss-up

Our board is divided on this issue. The official position of the Democratic Party is "Vote No," however, redistricting reform in general is an issue progressives have traditionally supported.

Ballot Question 2: Tax exemption for disabled veterans

Should an automobile or pickup truck be exempt from state and local taxation if it is owned and used primarily by or for a veteran of the armed forces of the United States or the Virginia National Guard who has a 100% service-connected, permanent, and total disability?

MoBo Recommends: Vote YES

This is a benefit that veterans earned and deserve.

Portsmouth Ballot Question

Shall casino gambling be permitted at a casino gaming establishment in Portsmouth, Virginia located at 3606 Victory Boulevard and surrounding undeveloped properties called the "Entertainment District" located east of Victory Boulevard, south of Interstate 264, west of McLean St. and north of Greenwood Dr. as may be approved by the Virginia Lottery Board?

MoBo Recommends: Vote NO

We feel the city needs to conduct an independent economic impact study to see what the true cost of the casino on our schools, social services, law enforcement, competing hotels and restaurants or property values.

Presidential Election

MoBo Recommends: C'mon.

There is only one sane choice: Joe Biden and Kamala Harris.

Senate Election

MoBo Recommends: Ditto above.

It's Mark Warner.

Congressional District 3
